Project: Bible Lounge

Bible Lounge Intro

Overview

Bible Lounge is a social networking site started in reaction to all the negative press MySpace and other social networks were receiving. Conceived with the goal of providing a safe and fun online community where young and old could "meet" and have bible study, do morning devotionals, or listen to a myriad of Christian music and sermons. The site has had an overwhelming response signing up nearly 22 hundred members in the first five months. Our shared server struggled to keep up with the 6000+ unique visitors who collectively registered 12.8 million hits and nearly 22 Gigabytes worth of data. July marked the move to a dedicated server and the air of a Fox Family Matters broadcast in which they interviewed Tom about the site.

We can’t take all the credit though as a large portion of the code was written by the PHPFox team and most of the site design was done by Tom Featherstone. Our work revolved around re-designing certain sections of the site, adding features such as band profiles, content management, and moving the site to the dedicated server. We wrote several modules allowing Bible Lounge staff to generate user demographics, serve profile images, generate user statistics on music played through Bible Lounge player, and generate XML sitemap files based on Googles Sitemap spec.
